Your AI Shopping Readiness Score: What It Means and How to Improve It

Your readiness score (0-100) tells you how well your store can handle customers who shop through AI assistants like ChatGPT, Google AI, and Perplexity.

Think of it like a health checkup for your store's AI compatibility.

What the Score Means

Your ScoreWhat It Means
80-100Excellent—AI can complete most purchases smoothly
60-79Good—some minor issues may cause occasional friction
40-59Fair—customers will often get sent to your website to finish
20-39Poor—AI shopping mostly won't work
0-19Not ready—AI assistants can't sell your products

What Goes Into Your Score

Your score is based on five areas. Here's what each one means in plain language:

1. Can AI Find Your Store? (20% of score)

Before AI can sell your products, it needs to find you. This checks:

  • Is your store "visible" to AI? Your platform needs to signal to AI assistants that you support AI shopping
  • Does it respond quickly? AI assistants time out if your store is slow

If this score is low: Talk to your platform provider about enabling AI commerce features.

2. Can AI Actually Sell Your Products? (30% of score)

This is the biggest factor. It checks whether AI assistants can:

  • Browse your products — Can AI search and display your catalog?
  • Complete checkout — Can AI process payments and place orders?
  • Track orders — Can AI check order status for customers?

If this score is low: Your store may not have the basic AI shopping features enabled yet.

3. Do You Have Extra Features AI Likes? (20% of score)

Beyond the basics, certain features make AI shopping work better:

FeatureWhy AI Wants It
Shipping infoSo AI can tell customers "arrives Friday"
Return policySo AI can answer "can I return this?"
Inventory levelsSo AI doesn't sell out-of-stock items
Store pickupSo AI can offer "pick up today" options

If this score is low: Add more product and policy information for AI to use.

4. Are You Compatible With Major AI Platforms? (20% of score)

Different AI assistants have different requirements. This checks how well you work with:

  • ChatGPT Shopping
  • Google AI Shopping
  • Perplexity Buy
  • Other major AI platforms

If this score is low: You may be missing specific features that certain AI platforms require.

5. When AI Needs Help, Is the Handoff Smooth? (10% of score)

Sometimes AI needs to send customers to your website (for large orders, customization, etc.). This checks:

  • Does the customer's cart transfer properly?
  • Is your checkout page ready to receive AI customers?
  • Are you set up to handle these handoffs gracefully?

If this score is low: Improve your handoff experience to avoid losing customers.

How to Improve Your Score

Quick Fixes (Can Do Today)

  • Enable AI commerce features in your platform settings
  • Check your page speed — slow stores get penalized
  • Add shipping information to your products

Medium Effort (This Week)

  • Add return policy information that AI can read
  • Verify inventory levels are accurate
  • Test your checkout with AI shopping

Longer Term (This Month)

  • Add all the features major AI platforms prefer
  • Optimize for specific platforms like ChatGPT or Google
  • Set up analytics to track AI shopping performance

What Each Score Level Means for Your Business

Score 80-100: You're in Great Shape

AI assistants can help customers discover and buy your products with minimal friction. Focus on optimization and tracking performance.

Score 60-79: Almost There

Most things work, but you're losing some sales due to gaps. Look at what's missing and prioritize those fixes.

Score 40-59: Needs Attention

AI can show your products, but checkout often fails or requires handoffs. This is costing you sales. Prioritize getting to 60+.

Score 20-39: Major Work Needed

AI shopping basically doesn't work for your store. You're invisible to a growing shopping channel. This should be a priority.

Score 0-19: Not Set Up

AI assistants can't sell your products at all. Start with the basics—enable AI commerce on your platform.
